WHY I PICKED THE BOOK
For a long time I was searching for a good sci fi book. As I was surfing over internet, I came across this book, Watchers by Craig Priestley. Although, the cover was not a very catchy one. But, I liked the summary of the book and decided to give it a go.
FROM WHERE I GOT THIS BOOK?
I was looking for a website where I can request books for a review. While doing this I came across https://storyoriginapp.com. After creating my login id, I surfed for a good sci fi book. The website came up with the book, Watchers by Craig Priestley as a suggestion. You can read the book only after requesting it on the website.
Craig Priestley is author of Watchers, a science fiction story. He lives in London, UK and graduated from University of Greenwich. The writer has also worked in Telivision production and advertising. He is an upcoming writer an his works are focussed on dystopian and apocalyptic worlds. His book, Watchers, was released in January 2020.
” Through the slightest whisper or the most lucid of dreams we speak. Remain in the shadows, and of mentioned sightings repeat. We are the Watchers.”
Charlie Taylor is an alone man who has only one friend, Steve. He has lost his mother few months back. But Steve has always been there to support him. Steve tries to hook him up few girls at a bar. They met Jenny and Rachael at the bar. But, Charlie has become distant after he lost his mother. Then he saw Annabelle, a barmaid, at the bar. He tries to talk with her but she said only one thing,”They are watching” and she vanished. Charlie tried to find her but all in vain.
The whole world was changing, people were behaving like lunatics and psychopaths. Attacks were happening all over the world. Annabelle reveals herself in front of Charlie and shows her true identity. Charlie could not believe his eyes.
Annabelle reveals that every human being is assigned a watcher who can influence that individual’s actions. But corruption was spreading among the watchers and a war was imminent. She needed Charlie’s help to end all this.
Who were these Watchers? Which war Annabelle was talking about? How can Charlie end this war? Should the humans be ready for an Apocalypse?
” Watchers had a method of influence- the subtle whispers, the prolonged night time unconsciousness. How they influenced was never taught; it merely existed from within, at a point of creation”
The protagonist, Charlie, is given a portrayal like an action hero. Of course, in the beginning his character was weak. But, as the story advanced he really emerged as a strong character who can do anything to save mankind.
In fact, I was amazed to see the tertiary characters who had significant contribution in the story. And, without them the story, Watchers, would have been incomplete.
The Antagonist has a limited role to play, mainly in the end. But that part was really an engaging one.
Although, the book, Watchers has an open ending but still the story will definitely keep you entertaining. I would rather define the book as those which you cannot put down without reading it full. Each and every character has played a definite role. And the most intriguing part is that all the characters are not dependent on each other.
The climax is the most riveting one. You would not be able to take your eyes off from reading when the story is reaching climax.
I will give a thumbs up to the story, Watchers. Definitely, a strong recommendation from my side.
Mark my words you would not be disappointed.
I really liked the writer’s narrative style in the story, Watchers. The events are narrated in a sequential manner which would not leave you hanging anywhere. Dialogues are short and easily understandable. The writer has used simple vocabulary which makes the story more grasping.
